The Paradox of So-Called "Security"

"Come, follow me," Jesus said...at once, they left their nets and followed Him."
Matthew 4:19-20

When we choose to follow Christ wherever He leads us, we are often tempted to believe that we will have chosen to leave a life of security for a life of insecurity, when in fact, we will have chosen to leave a life of insecurity for one of security. This is a paradox that few will truly understand.

Only those who have chosen to leave their nets will truly have stability in both this life and the next. Those who stay in the boat will tell themselves, "We are better off here!" When in fact, they exist in a rickety, accident prone vessel that at any moment, can become crushed under the weight of the sea and is constantly tossed by the merciless winds that are never calm for too long.
